Multifocal Intraocular Lens (IOL)

What Is Multifocal IOL?

IOLs are artificial lenses that are implanted as a replacement to the eye’s natural lens to help clear your vision after cataract surgery. Compared to a monofocal IOL, multifocal IOL allows clear vision at multiple distances. A monofocal IOL only allows clear vision at a single distance. Simply put, multifocal IOLs have more than one focusing distance, which allows vision at both distance and near.

Procedure

1. A small incision is made at the peripheral cornea to remove the cataract using an ultrasound probe.

2. Multifocal IOL is inserted and positioned within the posterior chamber, inside the lens capsule.

3. The incision is self-healing, and does not require stitches.
